The Rt. Rev'd Amos A. Fagbamiye, Suffragan Bishop, joined the Convocation of Anglicans in North America (CANA) upon its emergence. He serves as the Rector at the Anglican Church of the Resurrection (Indianapolis IN). In his CANA capacity, he will be assists CANA’s Missionary Bishop Martyn Minns with leading and shepherding the steadily increasing number of CANA congregations and their clergy in the Midwest. Bishop Fagbamiye is firmly committed to spreading the Gospel of Jesus Christ through the Apostolic Faith and Practice of the Church as it has always been preached, taught, and received.

Bishop Fagbamiye received God’s calling to ordained ministry during his military career. He has God-given gifts and a wealth of experience in planting churches, leading congregations, and assisting clergy. This is evidenced by the congregations in Lagos, Nigeria, which continue to mature and grow to this day: St. Jude’s Anglican Church and Bemil Anglican Chapel of the Epiphany. He continued this record after moving to the United States, and planting Anglican Church of the Resurrection in Indianapolis. Previous to this he served in the Anglican Province of America (APA) as a priest at Church of the Good Shepherd in Indianapolis. In all, Fagbamiye has served ten congregations or chaplaincies during his pastoral career.

His Nigerian heritage and deep roots in the Church of Nigeria made for an immediate connection with CANA. “I am drawn to CANA because it is a continuing church of the Anglican tradition that has remained true to the gospel and apostolic faith. I am attracted to CANA because it is the church that will remain open and welcome to people of all nationalities, cultures, and races who seek the salvation through and by the Lord Jesus Christ,” Fagbamiye explained.

After receiving his undergraduate degree, Fagbamiye entered the Nigerian Army as a lieutenant. Since then he has earned seven graduate degrees, diplomas, and certificates, including theological training at Bishop Awosika Seminary (Ondo, Nigeria). He followed the call to ordained ministry and served in several ecclesiastical capacities over the course of a decade, prior to retiring from the military as a Colonel. After emigrating to the United States, he earned a degree from the Christian Theological Seminary (Indianapolis IN) in 2005. In recognition of his academic credentials, he was preferred an archdeacon of the educational faculty in the Diocese of Ondo (Church of Nigeria) in 1995 Amos Fagbamiye has been married to his bride, Abikeola, for over 30 years and together they have four praiseworthy children, who also help impressively in the ministry, and three affectionate grandchildren.
